Doi Inthanon is the highest peak in Thailand. It is located in Chom Thong District, Chiang Mai Province. It was originally called "Doi Luang" or "Doi Luang Ang Ka". Doi Inthanon is name was the name of a king named Phra Chao Inthawichayanon, the ruler of Chiang Mai. He was concerned about the forests in the north and tried to preserve them. After his death, some of his ashes were enshrined in the stupa on the summit of Doi Luang and the name was changed in his honor.
